The use of renewable energy sources makes both environmental and economic sense. The generation of electricity from fossil and nuclear sources can be highly polluting. As a result, humanity contributes a great deal to the deterioration of the Earth's condition, including the greenhouse effect, climate change and atmospheric pollution. In order to preserve the Earth and slow down its degradation, it is essential to use energy production technologies that are less harmful to the environment. We now know that using renewable energy sources can help protect the environment and minimise pollution from energy use.
What is the difference between a solar panel and a solar collector? Több Kevesebb
The two technologies operate on completely different principles. A photovoltaic solar cell converts the sun's energy into electricity using a semiconductor layer. In contrast, a solar collector does not produce electricity, but heat through a heat transfer medium. A photovoltaic solar panel is used to meet the electricity needs of consumers and to generate electricity for the grid, while a solar collector is most often used for heating and domestic hot water.

Today's crystalline solar cells generate the energy needed to produce, transport and recycle them within the first years of their installation, during the first 5-10 percent of their initial lifetime. Solar panels therefore offer an affordable and environmentally friendly alternative to fossil fuels, thanks to the free and unlimited renewable energy of the sun.

From an economic point of view, renewable energy is an ideal choice, as it is very cost-effective to maintain. The price of oil, gas, coal and other depleting energy sources is constantly rising, precisely because supplies are finite - the less there is of them, the more expensive they become. But because renewable energy sources are not depleting and are readily available, their cost is moderate. The minimum maintenance costs are almost entirely maintenance. However, the current high unit investment cost of renewables is a barrier to their uptake. For this reason, financing support is being provided in Hungary, among other countries, to promote the development of these applications.

Depending on the factors influencing the investment cost (site conditions, plant size), the form of financing, and the selected solar power plant technology, a payback period of between 8 and 10 years can be expected.
What is a monocrystalline solar panel? Több Kevesebb
A monocrystalline solar cell is made up of several cells, each cell forming a single crystal structure. It is made by welding together several layers of silicon. Its cells are black in colour and are easily distinguishable from the outside. This type of solar cell currently has the highest efficiency (15-17%) in converting solar energy into electricity. The factory warranty is 25 years and the lifetime is at least 30 years. This monocrystalline type is more sensitive to orientation and tilting, so it is important to pay attention to this when designing solar systems.
What is a polycrystalline solar panel? Több Kevesebb
A solar cell made up of several cells, but as the name suggests, it is no longer made up of one crystal, but several. They are made using injection moulding technology. They are bluish-purple in appearance. They have a lower production cost than their monocrystalline counterparts, but also a lower efficiency (10-13%). They come with a 25-year factory warranty and a minimum lifetime of 30 years. This polycrystalline type is less sensitive to orientation and tilt, and therefore offers a wider range of applications for solar PV systems. The price is lower than the monocrystalline type. Today, this type is the most common type used in most power plants and residential solar systems in the world.
Does the system produce even when the sun is not shining? Több Kevesebb
The solar system produces efficiently during the sunny season. It can produce less energy during cloudy periods; however, there are solar power technologies that can somewhat adapt to cloudy weather conditions, allowing the system to maintain a certain level of efficiency.
Can solar panels produce in winter? Több Kevesebb
The instantaneous output of solar panels is also affected by the ambient temperature. Solar panels produce up to 20% less in summer heatwaves than in winter, at minus 10 degrees Celsius, with the same irradiance. However, the duration and intensity of irradiation in summer is significantly higher than in winter, so the amount of energy produced is significantly higher in summer.
What land is needed for a solar park? Több Kevesebb
A small power plant with a capacity of nearly 500kW, built from fixed panels, requires at least 1.3-1.5 hectares of land. It should be either set-aside land or land that can be easily withdrawn. Withdrawal is free of charge from 2 January 2018. Construction must not conflict with local zoning. The land must not be under nature or landscape protection. If the plot is crossed by a power line, the area must be outside its safety zone. A flat, shade-free, level or gently south-facing slope is required. An area where there is a medium-voltage grid connection within a foreseeable distance (no more than a few hundred metres). The generation line to be laid up to the point of connection requires a line licence, which must be obtained from the maintainer and/or owner of the utilities, roads and other owned land in the line's path.
